October 2020 NEWSLETTER
LAST MEETING: The October MVSR meeting was held on October 24 - 19 members were present with two new members. (Please welcome Mike & Vickie M., who own several cars - their favorites are 1956 Chevy Convertible, 1956 Chevy Nomad, 1956 Chevy Gasser, 1972 Chevy C10 Pick-up and recently restoring 1970 Chevy C30 Motorhome. Also welcome Ben & Claudia G., who own a 1957 Chevy and a 1939 Chevy.) President Tim S., called meeting at 11:20 pm.
SECRETARY REPORT: Secretary Teresa C. read the Minutes of the Meeting held September 1, 2020. A motion was made to accept the Board Meeting Minutes as written, second and passed.
TREASURY REPORT: Doug S. reported that the MVSR Club is solvent.
VICE PRESIDENT REPORT: Dave S. reported due to Activity Director Howard’s absence that there are a few car cruises left:
• Wednesday Free Show and Shine – Newcastle 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm
• Sunday Free Show and Shine at the New Life Church - Maple Valley 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm
• Labor Day Car Show at Troy B.’s house in Black Diamond on Monday September 7 was a lot of fun. There were around 150 or more cars. I enjoyed his slogan this year “Black Diamond Labor Day Protest”.
ACTIVITY DIRECTOR: In Howard V.E.'s absence, Dave M. mentioned the upcoming shows:
• Wednesday Free Show and Shine – Newcastle 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm
• Wednesday Free Show and Shine – Cumberland City Hall Saloon & Eatery 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm
• Sunday Free Show and Shine at the New Life Church - Maple Valley 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm
• 1st Friday Night Cruise in Enumclaw Friday, September 4, 2020 at 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
• Labor Day Car Show at Troy B’s house in Black Diamond Monday September 7 - MVSR will be meeting at the usual meeting place in Maple Valley McDonalds to caravan - be there by 6:30 am so we can arrive together.
WEBMASTER: Darren and Matt were absent, so nothing to report.
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE: Teresa reported in Nancy absence that a Congratulation’s Letter has been sent to Zachery M. to receive a $3,500.00 Scholarship from the Ziggy Murr Scholarship Account. Zachery is from Auburn High School. He plans on attending Green River Community College taking Auto Tech and Welding. Nancy is waiting for a response of status of his schooling. Rest assured that he will still qualify for the Scholarship in 2021 due to it is difficult to take welding from on-line classes. The Scholarship Committee will meet next year to meet with the High Schools looking for new candidates for the 2021 school year.
WELCOMING AND WELFARE COMMITTEE: In Firelei’s absence Tim S. asked membership if there are any members in need of a card to help cheer them up and/or need of our thoughts and prayers for healing. Teresa will contact Firelei to let her know.
OLD BUSINESS: Thank you Don for hosting the car club picnic on Sunday 11:00 am September 20, 2020 there were around 26 members present. Lots of wonderful side dishes.
NEW BUSINESS: Election time is here for the nominations of the Board of Directors. Tim S. for President. Dave M. for Vice President. Doug S. for Treasurer. Teresa C. for Secretary. Howard V.E. for Activity Director. Nancy Atkinson for Scholarship Chairman. The club made a motion to accept the above-named members for the 2021 Board of Directors, second and passed.
A motion was made to give $300.00 to Triple XXX in Issaquah for the Jingle Bell Toy Drive Cruise on December 6, second and passed. Meeting time will be announced at our next meeting. Dave and Judy also will host an afterhours get together at their home after the cruise.
Don G. volunteered his house for our Christmas Party December 13, 2020 at 12:00 pm. A $25.00 limit gift exchange (no gag gifts please). We will be having a potluck lunch. Sign-up sheets will be at the next club meeting.
A motion was made to give a donation of $200.00 to the Maple Valley Food Bank. It has been a couple of years since we have donated to them. Usually we collect food at our Friday Night Cruise in but due to no show this year the motion was second and passed.
The club voted in our new members Mike & Vickie M. and Ben & Claudia G. Welcome to our Maple Valley Street Rats Car Club.
Tim S. reminded everyone that dues are pending from last May - all Members not current may pay for them at the meeting or mail a check to MVSR, P.O. Box 155, Maple Valley, WA 98038
LUNCH OUT: None scheduled
50/50: A total of $80.00 was collected. The winner of $40.00 went to Tom R. and $40.00 to the club. Congratulations Tom!
NEXT MEETING: Sunday, November 15th, 2020 at 11:00 am at Don G.’s house.
ADJOURNMENT: A motion was made, second and passed to end the meeting at 12:00pm
After the meeting everyone enjoyed Judy M.’s carrot cake, it was delicious!!
