Maple Valley Street Rats Car Club
www.maplevalleystreetrats.com Editor: Doug
Julson Co-editor: Marcia Julson
LAST MEETING: The meeting was held on June
5, 2007 at 7:00 pm There was a total
of 42 members in attendance (including new members). Items discussed were the Treasurer’s Report, Maple Valley Days,
and Friday Night Cruise Ins, previous and upcoming events, scholarships and
July meeting date.
Proposed By-Law change: Section I, paragraph 3 (Required by IRS for
club to be a 501 C3 charitable organization) passed unanimously.
FRIDAY
NIGHT CRUISE-INS: RECORD NUMBERS!!!! Our fifth Friday night cruise-in at Wal-Mart
set a club record. We had 204 cars show
up at the cruise-in WITHOUT counting members cars. With our cars we had about 225 cars in all with still room for
more! Everyone had lots of fun and more
and more people are coming to us saying how much they like this place so much
better than Fred Meyers…and it’s less work for us old farts! MORE
GOOD NEWS!!! This past Friday night
(June 8) we had 145 cars (again not counting club members) show up under cloudy
conditions. The manager of Wal-Mart
came out and said that she talked to corporate and since we are bringing them
so much business and people are saying how much they like it, we get to stay
through the summer! No 14 day
maximum. In fact we are invited back
next year if we want! WAHOO!!!!!!!
MAPLE VALLEY DAYS: Can you believe that it has been
and gone! What a day! It started out bad and it stayed bad. We got everything set up and it started to
rain and rain and rain and rain and rain!
Lordy lordy did it rain! All in
all we had 54 cars with their die hard drivers…and we had 11 cars for the parade. Yes, there was still a parade!
Even
though we got wet, everyone seemed to have a good time. Some of the registrants were asked if they
would like us to speed up the process of raffles and the trophies and the
consensus was a big YES! The rain let
up some in time for us to hand out trophies and of course Ehren’s trophies were again a huge success.

KUDOS: See “From the President” for the complete
list as there are sooooooooo many people
to thank! A special thanks also to June Farran! She was responsible for
handing out hundreds of our flyers at all of the car shows she and Gary attended, and she made sure all
who attended “Friday Nights” knew about Maple Valley Days. She was also instrumental in getting ads
about our show into the Coffee Break,
and Seattle Times papers! Her enthusiasm outdid us all! THANK YOU, JUNE, it will be a long time before we can say “To the Moon,
June!” J
LEADS
& NEEDS: Just a few pieces: Les
White is a bundle of knowledge on pretty much anything, Larry Johnson knows carburetors and Harold Shamblin knows transmissions
like the backs of their hands. Forms
were passed around at the June meeting asking for information from members on
their areas of expertise. We should be
able to let you know what knowledge other members have in the next
newsletter. Again, if anyone has any
needs or leads on car parts, cars, engines, etc., let me know.
COATS AND APPAREL: The event shirts were brought to the June 1 Friday Night Cruise
In and sold like hot cakes. In fact we
went to Duvall Days and people were
asking us how they could get one. We
received orders for 5 more polo shirts and that order has been placed with SRP.
EVENTS: About 6-8
cars went to Crusin’ the Colby on Memorial Day weekend. Bill
Spears and Craig Chapman both
won trophies. Frank Adams won Peoples
Choice award at the Easton car show, also on Memorial Day weekend. Way to go, Frank. What a car! Several
members with a showing of 9 cars went to the Duvall Days car show on June 1.
Craig Chapman received a trophy
for Best T-Bucket…AGAIN!
That is some T-Bucket! The
Duvall Safeway Store sponsored the car show and the manager came to us and
thanked us for coming as well as offering his hand in anything we may need.
On June
1, Mt. Tahoma High School invited us to their student car show on June 1. Ray,
Larry Johnson, Dan Gilmore, Steve Holt, LarKen Buchanan, Gary DeLisle, Gary
Parker, June Farran and I brought our cars and the kids were really
impressed. It showed us that the
interest in the “Classics” is still very much alive. They even fed us hamburgers while we were there.
There are several car shows
coming up, (as Marsh says…NO DUH!)
so check our web site for dates. Some
members are going to Roseburg, Oregon for “Graffiti Week” (week of July 4) Check with the Julson’s for camping/RV
spots and the Merriman’s for hotels…or go onto the Graffiti Week website (http://www.traveloregon.com/Explore-Oregon/Southern-Oregon/Upcoming-Events/Fairs)
and then click on Roseburg Graffiti Week.
If you are planning on going, it’s best to get your accommodations as
quickly as possible because, from what we hear, places fill fast. The dates are 7/4 – 7/8.
The LeMay Museum is having tours of all his cars. Tours are 10:00 a.m., 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
everyday of the week. There are also
tours Thursday evenings. Cost is $5.00
per person…and our own Les White is
a tour guide!
FROM THE PRESIDENT: It’s a
tradition to expect a little rain at Maple Valley Days Car Show, but this year
was way above normal. That means the MVSR members who were out there helping
were going way beyond the call of duty, and deserve bigger thanks then normal
so THANKS!!!!! The
preparations were great, the trophies, the goodie bags, the raffle items, so THANKS!!!!! Atkinsons, Collins’,
Merrimans, Vicki Markley, and all the rest who helped. Special thanks to Lars
for spending all day in the trailer. Debbie, Marcia, and Valorie for running
the raffle table, and to Steve Holt and his parking gang. THANKS!!!!!
Harold for the loan and the help setting up of your big tent. That said, I for
one had a great time!! It was sure nice
to see everyone working together and enjoying themselves. By the way isn’t it great
that Wal-Mart is letting use their parking lot on a permanent basis without the
14 day per year limitation. Everyone seems to enjoy the extra room and ease of
parking. I have heard complaints about no close by food, or restrooms, but
mostly I have people saying how much better it is then Fred Meyers, and that
the complainers should plan accordingly. See you at the meeting – Ray
