February 2007 Newsletter

LAST MEETING: The meeting was held on February 6, 2007.  Several items were discussed; among them were the amended By-Law change from last month, Scholarship Committee, dinner night out, and the transfer of some checking account money into a new CD.  Also discussed was the club’s non-profit status with IRS, the new 2007 budget, and upcoming club events.  Jo White volunteered to be the club parliamentarian of which the club agreed.  Thank you, Jo.

** IMPORTANT – READ-- CONSTITUTION/BY-LAW CHANGES (attached):

The Board of Directors spent numerous hours going over the “MVSR” Constitution/By-Laws for the purpose of making it a clear document for governing the “Club”.  Please read the attached document and be prepared to vote on it at the March membership meeting.

DINNER OUT/EATING OUT:  Dinner Out on January 18 at Jimmie Mac’s in Renton was a great success. The food was great, company/conversation fantastic and of course who can forget “the peanuts” and Lyle’s nutritional salad!   Since there are several members who either work night shifts or have other time constraints which doesn’t allow them to join the “dinner out’s” during the week, it was decided to have lunches and/or breakfasts once in a while.  We will meet this month at “The Filling Station”, 32015 – 23rd Ave S., Federal Way, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 25.  (Right behind Red Robin)  Come one, come all…the more the merrier!

BOWLING:   Hey guess what!  The Street Rat teams won three games at last weeks match and Ray finally has two partners.  Now let’s see if he can win a game!J  Both Nancy and Val got four strikes in a row…don’t know what that’s called, maybe a Turkey and a leg?

CRUISING:  On Saturday, January 10, Ray, Vicki and I accompanied Max to Clearview, where his son, Mike, builds sprint race cars from start to finish.  What an impressive site! He is crew chief of his car #91 and the driver is Derek Ingals.  Thank you, Max.  It was a great experience.

Jim Straight informed the club that there is a new eating place in the Burien-Normandy Park area that is catering to “gear heads”.  It is called the Park Place Bar & Grill and is being decorated with car memorabilia.  They have asked for 8x10 pictures of cars with the owner’s name written on the front.  They will then pick a car of the month and place the picture of that car in the center of a large stop sign.  The owner of the car will be able to eat and drink for half price, during that month.  I took one of our club’s license plates to Jim and he is going to have it placed in the restaurant

NEW HOT RODS:  Tim and Teresa Collins recently purchased a 1975 Ranchero and Jim and Sue Straight recently purchased a 1965 Chev Impala…all original.  Nice rides!!!!

SCHOLARSHIPS:  Reminder again.  Scholarships are to be completed and handed in by March 31, 2007.  The Scholarship Committee is meeting this month to get the information out to the schools.

COATS AND APPAREL:   Most of the t-shirts and hats left over from last year were sold at this month’s meeting.  Eight members submitted their money to Ray for the purchase of winter jackets.  He and I are going to meet with the supplier Monday.  Hopefully they will be able to supply hats as well as summer jackets.  I will report to the membership at the next meeting.

EVENTS:   Teresa went over the budgets for our upcoming events: Friday-Night Cruise Ins, Maple Valley Days and Mt. Si Festival.  She also passed around a volunteer sign up sheet for these events.  Some of you already volunteered but more are needed for all events.  For Friday-night cruise in, contact Lyle and for Maple Valley Days and Mt. Si Festival, contact Teresa.

Flyers for the upcoming events are in progress.  They should be ready for distribution at the March meeting just in time for Gary and June to take to the Oak Harbor Cruise In. These flyers will also be posted on the club website.

FROM THE PRESIDENT:  I seem to be really busy for someone who isn’t getting anything done.  Except, after a frenzied week, I did get my new computer going.  We now have MSN, DSL, wireless keyboard and mouse, and a wireless broadband router.  It’s been a blast!  My new e-mail is www.popmarkley@msn.com.  We’ve been having Board meetings and activity meetings and working on the CruzIn' Magazine ad (thanks Marcia) and now flyers…but let me back up here…there are some people who need thanking.  First off, at the February meeting you might have noticed the new club mascot.  It is the ugliest looking rat I’ve ever seen.  It’s about 18” of real ugly high, squatting on its hind legs and ready to fight with its front legs.  Great big thanks to Max Cossalter for donating him to the club.  It’s only right we name our new mascot Mad Max.  But, that’s not all, another big thanks goes to Marcia Julson.  Marcia and Vicki got to talking and Marcia took Mad Max home and painted a real nice Street Rat T-shirt on him.  He looks cool – especially the drool!  Also it’s come to my attention that at least one, maybe more of the club members who worked so hard on club activities last summer weren’t properly thanked (I know the feeling).  So here it is.  THANK YOU!!  Last summer was great, the cruise-ins were the best and so were the shows.  No rain for the Maple Valley show, and another perfect day for Mt. Si.  I know it was a lot of work.  Thank you – Thank you everyone!  Now the bad news, Fred Meyer is going to be using our cruise-in spot for container storage.  We’re kicking around ideas for a new site now.  It looks like Wal-Mart in Covington might be our best bet.  I’ve talked to several people now who say the Covington car show held there was really pretty good – more to come at the meeting.

NEXT MEETING:  Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at Henry’s Switch Restaurant at Lake Wilderness Golf Course.  The meeting starts promptly at 7:00 p.m.; however, a lot of people show up at 6:00 p.m. to have dinner first.

NEXT MEETING AGENDA:  Constitution/By-Law changes, Friday night-cruise in and club events.

KUDOS:  A big Kudos to Ray and Vicki for putting all of those hours and effort in the Constitution and By-Laws.

50/50 DRAWING:  Won by Marcia Julson.  Marcia took home $37 and the club received $38.

Teresa’s Column:  Teresa’s column will be back next month.

P.S.   (Did she really beat you that bad, Max?)
